The City Council performs disinsecting and rat extermination works in 426 kilometers of the sewerage network.

The fumigation campaign is carried out by zones, both in the urban center and in the outskirts, and affects 19,771 manholes and 10,573 scuppers.

Estepona City Council reports that continues with the work for the campaign of disinfestation and rat extermination, which is active throughout the year, with the aim of eliminating rodent and insect pests that may be concentrated in the sewerage network.

The Deputy Mayor of Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, has indicated that the concessionaire of water supply service in the city, Hidralia, is acting in the 426 kilometers of the municipal sewerage network, in the 19.

The municipal responsible has highlighted the need to carry out this type of work throughout the year, although the campaign intensifies in the months of May to October coinciding with the breeding periods, thus avoiding the presence of rodents and other insects favored by high temperatures.

The works are executed by areas and sectors, including urban and suburban areas, to facilitate the management of treatments with bocidas (substances for disinfection).

The operators of the concessionary company of the Municipal Water Service inform the owners of the houses and establishments where the work is being carried out, warning of the possibility that, during the work, the number of insects in the streets may increase momentarily as a result of the treatment.

These works, which are coordinated with the concessionary company Precero in charge of the cleaning of the areas where action has been taken, are carried out early in the morning in the most central streets and commercial areas, so that the daily activity of individuals and businesses is interrupted as little as possible.

In addition to the Annual Plan of Pest Control and Rodent Control, Hidralia performs throughout the year a monitoring of the incidents detected in the municipality, as well as suggestions and complaints received from neighbors.

Blas Ruzafa noted that pest control is one of the most important actions undertaken each year in the municipality for reasons of hygiene, cleanliness and public health.
