The Estepona City Council will renovate the beach facilities and install concrete walkways at all public access points

The City Council will allocate nearly 900,000 euros through two public bids, which will also involve the modernization of beach restrooms and the installation of drainage platforms for showers and foot wash stations

The Estepona City Council reports that it will allocate nearly 900,000 euros to renovate the beach facilities used for restrooms and lifeguard stations, and to install concrete walkways at all public access points.

Blas Ruzafa, Deputy Mayor for Services and External Oversight, has stated that the City Council aims to carry out a major overhaul of these facilities, which serve beachgoers, in the coming months.

Accordingly, a call for bids has been issued for the supply and installation of six lifeguard and first-aid modules, nine restroom modules, and one storage module, which will be distributed among the beaches of Arroyo Vaquero, El Cristo, La Rada, Saladillo, El Padrón, and Paseo Marítimo. The contract is being put out to bid with a base budget of 421,685 euros, including VAT.

The new lifeguard stations will be used to enhance the monitoring of swimmers and emergency response, as well as to provide rest areas for lifeguards. The storage module will allow for the secure storage of rescue and accessibility equipment, as well as amphibious chairs and stretchers, close to the water.

The new restrooms will be equipped with toilets, sinks, footbaths, and various accessories, and will include spaces adapted for people with reduced mobility and access ramps, promoting universal accessibility.

The modules will be constructed from durable materials suitable for the coastal environment and will incorporate complete electrical and plumbing systems. Their exterior design will be predominantly white with blue vinyl accents and will feature the Estepona coat of arms, while one of the restroom modules will have a wood-colored finish to blend in with the aesthetic of the beach bars.

In addition, the City Council has approved the procurement documents for the supply and installation of prefabricated concrete walkways at all public access points to the municipality’s beaches. This improvement will enhance accessibility year-round, making it easier for people with limited mobility to move from the boardwalk or the coastal promenade to the dry and wet sandy areas, as well as to the restroom and lifeguard stations. In this regard, it should be noted that the new concrete walkways will be wider than the existing ones, measuring 1.80 meters.

This project will replace the current wooden walkways, which had to be removed after each summer season and were frequently damaged by storms. In addition, the concrete walkways will offer greater durability and resistance to traffic from beach cleaning machinery, while also reducing maintenance needs. 

In total, 1,250 linear meters of concrete walkways will be installed at the various public beach access points throughout the municipality.

The contract, which has a base bid budget of 457,259 euros (VAT included), also provides for the installation of 42 new drainage platforms for showers and footbaths, and another 40 platforms for beach facilities.

These improvements will complement the new lifeguard and rescue towers installed last summer. In total, 17 new structures were installed at La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo, and Arroyo Vaquero.

The deputy mayor in charge of Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, noted that the new contracts contribute to the ongoing modernization of coastal facilities and to improving the services offered to residents and visitors at the municipality’s beaches.
