Cádiz saxophonist Javier Roa wins First Prize in the VIII Concurso de Jóvenes Intérpretes (VIII Young Performers Competition)

The national competition, sponsored by the Estepona City Council, aims to support young musicians under 14 years of age.

The Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, has awarded the young saxophonist Javier Roa Alcázar, 13, the First Prize of the VIII National Competition for Young Performers, organized by the Musical Association ‘Gradus ad Parnassum’ and sponsored by the City of Estepona.

In the contest, Javier Roa also received the Special Prize of the Public, the Special Prize GEWA, the Special Prize Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaga, the Special Prize Philharmonic Society of Malaga, the Special Prize ‘The future begins here’ and the Special Prize ‘Camerata Complutense’.

The Second Prize of this edition went to Cristina Alonso Sánchez, a 13-year-old viola player from Oviedo.

The Third Prize ex aequo was awarded to Sara Camila Molina Isaaccura, a 13-year-old harpist from Madrid, and to Marco David Gayo Lehner, a 12-year-old violinist from Madrid, who also received the Special Prize ‘Summer Camp’ and the Special Prize ‘Barcelona International Young Artist Competition’.

Likewise, the jury awarded the Finalist Diploma and the Special Prize ‘Scherzo Foundation’ to Chensui Jin, a 13-year-old pianist from Madrid.

On the other hand, Antonio Ortiz Trabalón, a 12-year-old violinist from Malaga, received the Special Prize ‘Iberian Sinfonietta’, while Mario Ñíguez Molina, a 10-year-old pianist from Malaga, was awarded the Special Prize ‘Colegio San José’ to the youngest participant.

The alderman has highlighted the level of the participants and pointed out that this contest was launched with the aim of promoting and encouraging culture and art among young people.

The jury of this eighth edition was composed of renowned figures of the national and international music scene, chaired by Juan Mendoza, artistic director of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía.

Organized by the Musical Association “Gradus ad Parnassum”, presided by Olga Tarasova, cellist professor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaga and artistic director of the contest, the competition is sponsored by the City Council of Estepona and the collaboration of Radio Clásica, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, GEWA Strings, HINVES Pianos, Fundación Scherzo, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga (OFM), Sociedad Filarmónica de Málaga, “Sol Classic Management”, Orquesta ‘Iberian Sinfonietta’, ‘Camerata Complutense’ Alcalá de Henares, ‘Barcelona International Young Artists’, ‘Barcelona International Young Artists’ Orchestra’.
