City Council and Red Cross launch a campaign for the prevention of the effects of heat aimed at the elderly and vulnerable groups

It will begin on June 21 and will be held on alternate Sundays during June, July and August from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in a tent on the Paseo Marítimo, where information on protection measures against high temperatures, a shaded area for rest and free access to blood pressure measurement will be offered.

The councilor attached to the delegation of Health, Julia Simon, and the head of Health of the Local Assembly and the Provincial Director of Red Cross, Pablo Muñoz and Monica Morales, today presented the campaign ‘Hot, hot. Protect yourself from the heat wave is closer than you think”, aimed at promoting the prevention of the adverse effects of high temperatures and promote public awareness.

The campaign, which is especially aimed at the elderly and vulnerable groups, will be active from June 21 and will run on alternate Sundays in June, July and August. During these days, from 10.00 to 13.00 hours; Red Cross will have a tent installed on the Paseo Marítimo (in front of the traffic circle of the European Union), where it will offer a shaded area for rest, information on appropriate measures to follow to protect against high temperatures and where you can access free blood pressure. In addition, this tent will also be present at special events where there is a large influx of people, as in the celebrations of the Virgen de Carmen and the Night of San Juan.

People who, while taking a walk, have symptoms such as tiredness, dizziness or discomfort related to the heat, can go to this point, where they will be given support and can stay until they get better.

It should also be noted that in addition to these days, Red Cross will offer its services on any day in which the authorities issue alerts for high temperatures (yellow, orange or red levels) establishing points of care and prevention, as needed.

In addition, from Red Cross Estepona is reminded of the importance of taking preventive measures against high temperatures, such as avoiding intense physical activity during peak hours of heat, sun protection and frequent hydration.

The campaign ‘On guard against the heat’ is a commitment of the Red Cross to take care of the health and welfare of the population, and has the support and involvement of the City Council.
