Estepona City Council celebrates the first Paella Contest for the benefit of the Brotherhood of Vera+Cruz

The contest will be held on Sunday, June 8, at El Calvario Park.
The City Council of Estepona informs that next Sunday, June 8, will be held in the Municipal Park El Calvario, the I Paella Contest, for the benefit of the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of the Vera+Cruz.
The event is organized by the City Council and aims to promote the gastronomic culture of the city and the tradition of rice, as well as to publicize and value the quality of local products.
All the necessary material for the preparation of the paellas, such as paella pan, gas donut, etc., is at the expense of the registered contestants, as well as the ingredients to be used for cooking, except for oil, vegetables and rice, which will be provided to each participant by the organization: 1 liter of oil, 5 kilograms of rice and vegetables needed thanks to the collaboration of Molino-Roca, Frutas y Verduras Acosta and Andalucía Gastronómica.
Participants may prepare any type of paella in all its varieties and presentations, with a minimum of 50 servings, which can be tasted by the public at the price of 5 euros per serving. The proceeds will go to charity and the bar will be managed by a non-profit association.
The first 10 paellas will be ready, at 14:30 hours, and the other 10 remaining at 15:00 hours, for presentation to the jury, which will consist of renowned professionals in the catering industry, such as chef David Canca, who will act as technical director president of the contest, plus a chef of the city and a member appointed by the delegation of Culture.
Participants will be eligible for the following prizes, which will be awarded the same day of the contest, at 17:00 hours:
1st Prize: 1,000 euros.
2nd Prize: 500 euros
3rd Prize: 250 euros
Rest of participants: 17 runners-up prizes of 100 euros.
