Patchwork, or ‘patchwork’, is a craft sewing technique that consists of joining small pieces of fabric of different colors, patterns and textures to create a larger, decorative textile design. It is used to make quilts, cushions, garments and accessories.
This technique was born from the need to use leftover fabric scraps to create new garments or blankets. The pieces (patches) are sewn together, forming geometric blocks (such as squares, triangles or hexagons) which are then assembled.
Patchwork is not only a creative activity, but also offers multiple benefits:
– Creativity: by selecting, cutting and combining fabrics, patchwork allows you to explore creativity, making each piece unique.
– Environmental sustainability: it is a great way to recycle and reuse fabric scraps, contributing to a more sustainable approach to fashion and home decor.
– Relaxation and mental health: many people find that the meditative rhythm of cutting and sewing fabrics has a calming effect, which is beneficial for mental health.
– Community building: participating in patchwork groups or classes can be a great way to meet new people and share a common passion.
