Estepona City Council reports that the local author Julio Peces Ruiz, Ateneo Joven de Sevilla 2025 Award for his book ‘Fundido a negro’, will sign copies of his latest works as part of the XXX Summer Book Fair, held at the Paseo Marítimo. It will be next Friday, August 1 at 21.00 hours.

Julio Peces Ruiz (Estepona, 1992), a great fan since childhood of cinema and literature, began writing adventure novels in his teens, publishing his first work at eighteen: ‘Blue Sky. La alianza del cielo azul’ (2010), first part of a saga that would have its continuation with ‘Blue Sky y el misterio del barco’ (2012), ‘Blue Sky contra la banda de Ra’ (2015) and finally reach its conclusion with ‘Blue Sky. The Last Departure’ (2018).

After graduating in Spanish Language and Literature and Dramatic Art, he held various jobs as a proofreader, typesetter or manager at book fairs, always combining them with writing and his other activities, among which stand out acting or the study of Japanese language and culture.

In recent years, already adopting a more mature style, he wrote novels such as ‘The sound of silence’ (2022), books on cinema such as ‘This is a disaster. Las mejores películas del cine de catástrofes’ (2022) or short film scripts such as ‘Memorias de sangre’ (2021) or ‘El tiempo airado’ (2024).

In this 2025 he has won the Ateneo Joven de Sevilla Award with his latest novel, ‘Fundido a negro’, a thriller set in the audiovisual world whose publication will take place next fall.

This Friday, the author will sign copies of his two latest works ‘El expreso del anochecer’ and ‘El sonido del silencio’.

The Nightfall Express. November 5, 1951. A luxury train crosses Europe. On board, five stories intertwine in the course of one night. Drama, romanticism and intrigue are mixed in this novel, dealing with themes such as love in its different manifestations, reality seen from different perspectives, the war of the sexes or the eternal struggle to find the meaning of life.

The sound of silence. Hector, an ambitious and promising singer living the best moment of his career, suddenly loses his voice in a terrible incident. Sahara, an introverted and sweet young woman going through an acute existential crisis, loses her hearing in a diving accident. As fate would have it, the two end up meeting.

“Julio Peces Ruiz offers us with this novel a markedly realistic story, impregnated with a melancholic atmosphere and centered on his characters, drawn with a meticulous psychological depth (…) while taking the opportunity to address issues such as depression, anxiety, obsessions, loneliness or suicide…. Themes as tragic as they are present in our society today”. Luis Alberto de Cuenca.

XXX Summer Book Fair. Until September 14, thousands of titles of all styles will be available to readers at very affordable prices, from 11:00 to 14:30 and from 19:00 to 24:00 hours. The fair is organized by the company ‘Urbano Libros’, in collaboration with the City Council. The author signings will take place daily, at 21:00 hours:
