Mariluz Reyes and Juan Emilio Ríos present this Friday the book ‘Esclava o libre, siempre poesía’ (Slave or free, always poetry) at Casa de Las Tejerinas

The literary presentation will take place on Friday, May 8, at 6:00 p.m., in the Alfonso Gil Alfonso Hall, with free access until full capacity is reached.

The Estepona City Council informs that on Friday, May 8, at 18:00 hours, will take place in the Alfonso Gil Alfonso Hall of the Casa de Las Tejerinas, the presentation of the poetry book ‘Esclava o libre, siempre poesía’ by the authors Mariluz Reyes and Juan Emilio Ríos.

This project comes from the proposal of Juan Emilio Ríos, professor of literature and writer, to Mariluz Reyes, poet. It is a collection of poems that includes a wide sample of classical stanzas, in its first part, and ten poems of free rhyme, in the second part.

In its metrical part, that is to say, classic work, the work is undertaken in a very singular way, since the authors, instead of writing one stanza each, decided to write the verses of each stanza alternatively, verifying with great satisfaction that the poetics fit together really well and complement each other perfectly.

When they met the estimated requirements, “we considered our bravery satisfied, in such a crazy project. Real octaves, haikus, tenths or spinel, sonnet etc…, and some stanzas invented and recorded by Juan Emilio, would see the light. In the second part, we abandon the alternative turn by verse, and we undertake the poem by stanza, so as not to cut the individual creativity of each one of us, because it is poetry without metrics”.

The authors say they are delighted to offer the world a joint work, from the honesty of each turn as writers, “making us feel proud of our work”.

María Luz Reyes Muñiz was born in Jubrique. Her profession, linked to the world of fashion, is not far from the creative field, which is where she likes to find herself.

Emotional poet since she was very young, it was not until 2023 that she published her first collection of poems, ‘Luz al aire’. He is currently enjoying his latest work, ‘Brotaremos de nuevo’.

Art is a place where she intends to reach every day. She paints to calm her emotions. And she feels that beauty is the oxygen of life.

Semifinalist in several short story contests, she has published poetry in several literary magazines and has participated in radio programs. He likes to be a participant in several anthologies for the fact of adding, and is a member of the UNNE association, the tertulia La Balada Nómada and the poetry group of Estepona.

Juan Emilio Ríos Vera (Algeciras in 1966) has a degree in Hispanic Philology. President of the Ateneo “José Román” of Algeciras and Section VI of the Institute of Studies Campogibraltareños. President of the Poetry Group “José Luis Cano” and the Poetry Group “José Luis Cano”. Member of the Republican Athenaeum “Blasco Ibáñez” of Valencia and of the Association of Poets for Human Rights, delegate of the province of Malaga of the Multidisciplinary group “Mistium”, and activist of Amnesty International. He is also a columnist for the newspaper “VIVA” of Campo de Gibraltar, and before that for “Europa Sur” and “Faro Información”, and collaborator in various radio and television programs in Manilva, Los Barrios and San Roque.

As a poet he has published numerous books of poetry, including “El exquisito cadáver de la rosa”, “Poeta en alerta”, “El jardín de los suspiros” or “Engendros de la ira”. As a narrator he has published a book of short stories, “El cementerio de los suicidas”, and a book of journalistic articles “La última columna antes del precipicio”. As an essayist he has published “Haiku” and “Alcohol in Literature, History and Advertising.” He has directed the magazines “Yaraví”, “Barataria” and “Entelequia”. He has created several stanzas: “el Kif”, “la Deyanira”, “el Iuncuset ventus”, “el Espejo”, “la Giraluna” and “La Violeta”.

Among his distinctions, he stands out for having been a finalist on three occasions for the national science fiction and fantasy poetry award, better known as “Ignotus Award” and for having obtained the “Luz” Poetry Award in 1999, the Cultural Initiatives Award of the University of Cadiz in 2000 and the “Aljabibe” in 2012. In 2013 he was awarded the Golden Shield of the National Union of Writers of Spain for his literary work and his contribution to the dissemination of Spanish-Moroccan Literature. In 2014 he was awarded the “Stigma Hunter” prize by the Andalusian Federation of the Mentally Ill (FEAFES), for being “the best ambassador against the stigmas of mental illness”.
