More than a hundred people will participate in the activities organized by the City Council to celebrate the International Day of the Elderly.

The program will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 1, and will include cultural and leisure activities in honor of the elderly.

Estepona City Council reports that, on the occasion of the International Day of the Elderly, has organized through the Municipal Geriatric Office and in collaboration with the Red Cross and the Residence for the Elderly of the Andalusian Government in Isdabe, a series of cultural and leisure activities in honor of the elderly of the city. They will be held tomorrow, October 1, and will have more than a hundred participants.

As reported by the councilman attached to the area of Elderly, Daniel Garcia, the program of activities will begin at 10.30 am with a guided tour of the municipal museums of the Plaza de Toros, as well as the exhibition 'Quiñones: Al Origen', which is on display at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center. In addition, from 17.00 hours will be offered a snack and dance enlivened by the Red Cross users of the program 'Enrédate-Soledad no Deseada'.

As stated by the mayor, through this initiative the Consistory wants to continue promoting the active participation of our elders in cultural life and promote active aging. In short, "we want our elders to feel protagonists and recognized" explained Garcia.

In addition, the municipal responsible has reported that to achieve these objectives, throughout the year the City Council offers this sector of the population many other activities not only to keep them active, but also to keep track of their health. In this regard we refer to the digital literacy workshops, Danzaterapia and gymnastics and the program 'The sound beautifies you'. Also, from the Municipal Geriatric Office is carried out a chronic control in order to detect risk factors in cardiovascular patients, psychological therapies and cognitive assessment in initial assessment and a podiatric care program, among other initiatives.

During this week there will be an extensive program of recreational, cultural, sports and social activities, with the involvement of residents, family members, professionals, volunteers and neighbors in the area.

The management of the centers emphasize that this initiative strengthens community ties and contributes to improving the quality of life of the residents. The aim is for the elderly to feel protagonists and recognized. For this reason, this week is a celebration of their history, their long experience and their fundamental role in society.
