The Biblioteca de Culturas Contemporáneas programs two activities with Ben Clark, one of the most outstanding poets in our country.

Next Tuesday, June 2, he will give the writing workshop ‘Versos para aliviar cualquier pena’ and on Wednesday, June 3, he will present his latest collection of poems ‘Semiótica Nuclear’.

The Estepona City Council reports that the Library of Contemporary Cultures of the Mirador del Carmen has scheduled for next week two activities with Ben Clark, one of the most prominent poets of our country.

Clark, winner of such prestigious poetry awards as the Loewe or Hiperión, will give next Tuesday, June 2, at 19.00 pm, the writing workshop ‘Verses to relieve any pain’. Those interested in this free activity must register at bcc@estepona.es.

The second date with Ben Clark will be on Wednesday, June 3, at 8 p.m., with free admission until full capacity is reached. The author will present ‘Nuclear Semiotics’, a collection of poems in which he imagines how a civilization tries to leave a record of itself when it knows that its legacy may become incomprehensible.

The book explores the limits of language – its resistance and its failure – and turns that uncertainty into a form of clarity. Between sealed deposits and fractured mythologies, the poems ask what is left of us when only signs survive and who, human or not, will be able to decipher them. In short, a work about memory and the need to keep saying even when no one can guarantee there will be a reader.

Ben Clark, poet and translator, has published, among others, the collections of poems ‘Los hijos de los hijos de la ira’, ‘Cabotaje’, ‘Basura’, ‘La Fiera’, for which he won the El Ojo Crítico de RNE de Poesía award in 2014, ‘Los últimos perros de Shackleton’ or ‘La policía celeste’.

He has translated the poetic work of Edward Thomas, Anne Sexton, Stephen Dunn and Saul Williams, among others. He is a trustee of the Antonio Gala Foundation for Young Creators of Cordoba and poetry tutor of the scholarship residents.

He has taught poetry creation workshops in Spain, United Kingdom, Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia, Dominican Republic and South Korea and has been a jury member for numerous poetry awards such as the International Poetry Prize ‘Ciudad de Estepona’, the Generation of 27 Poetry Prize or the José de Espronceda Poetry Prize.
