Rafael Ochando Ruíz was born 73 years ago in Algeciras. “Since I was a child I felt a strong inclination for drawing and painting. According to what my parents told me, I started drawing from the moment I could hold a pencil. I always dreamed of studying Fine Arts and dedicating myself professionally to art, but life took me down other paths, and I finally ended up in a Clinical Analysis Laboratory, where I still work.
Over the years, my passion for painting led me to explore multiple techniques: comics, illustrations, oil paintings, acrylics … but as they say, “he who embraces much, squeezes little” and I gradually abandoned projects. It was an exhibition at the Gaudi Awards that left me deeply impressed and pushed me to dedicate myself fully to watercolor.
I am completely self-taught. No one corrected my mistakes, I still continue with them and struggling to master water, something that is not easy at all. However, with time and daily practice, I have been progressing little by little.
I have had several solo exhibitions in Algeciras and, for several years now, I have participated in a group exhibition in El Cortijo de Guadacorte (Los Barrios). I paint every day, although time and obligations often make it difficult for me. Even so, I cannot conceive of a day without approaching color, paper, and that eternal struggle with water.
