The City Council begins the clearing campaign in more than fifty riverbeds and river and stream crossings to prevent flooding.

The Consistory acts annually in urban areas under municipal jurisdiction to remove plant debris, reeds and garbage that may have accumulated.

The City Council of Estepona has started the campaign of clearing more than fifty riverbeds and passages of streams and rivers that run through urban areas in the city, with the aim of preventing floods and fires.

Thanks to these interventions carried out by the City Council every year, the obstacles that exist in the beds of rivers and streams and that could impede their normal drainage are eliminated. At the same time, the formation of blockages that could cause flooding in the event of heavy rainfall is avoided. The clearing of stream beds is also carried out with the intention of avoiding forest fires that could endanger the neighbors and the natural heritage of the municipality.

The work has begun and has already acted in Arroyo Pantoja and its tributary, to pass in the coming days by Arroyo el Taraje (upstream and downstream of the avenue of palm trees). In this area, the area downstream of the A-7 to the beach will be reviewed and reworked. It will be followed by: Arroyo Judío and overpasses of the Alberdina road, and downstream in the area of Playa del Padrón; Hornacino de Levante; Hornacino de Poniente (downstream and upstream of Avenida del Carmen); Arroyo los Polvitos, at the crossing with Camino Los Polvitos; Arroyo vaquero; Arroyo Enmedio; Arroyo La Galera; Río Padrón, in areas Fuente Cursito, Huertas del Padrón and Charca la Extranjera; Río Guadalobón; Arroyo Cantarranas (on both sides of the overpass); Arroyo la Miel at its junction with the Casares road and in the area of the houses under the old landfill; Arroyo El Saladillo; Río La Cala; Arroyo Las Abejeras; Río Monterroso; Arroyo Dos Hermanas; several sections of the Río Velerín Alto, under the highway, and downstream A-7 (beach area in Torre Velerín); Arroyo Antón; Arroyo Las Cañas; and Cañada Ortega.

In addition, work will be carried out on some thirty river and stream crossings upstream and downstream of the municipal area. It is important to remember that the City Council is only competent to act in the riverbeds located in urban areas, and the Junta de Andalucía is responsible for the maintenance of those that run in the rest of the municipal areas.

These works of clearing and pruning have been resumed after the summer season, as the Junta de Andalucía urges not to act from spring and during the summer (March to July-August) on the banks of rivers and streams to respect the nesting times of protected species. For this reason, all the work being carried out has the required authorizations from the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment.

Once the clearing work has been completed by the Operational Brigades, the cleaning company will be in charge of removing the remains of solid urban waste in the areas of action.
