The City Council initiates the procedures to repair the section of the coastal corridor in Playa Bella affected by the storms.

The work will provide stability to the concrete wall that was built in the area to connect this point with La Chimenea.

The Estepona City Council has initiated the procedures for the contracting of the necessary work to repair and stabilize part of an existing retaining wall in the area of Playa Bella, which is affected by the damage caused by successive storms. Specifically, it is going to intervene in the layout of the coastal corridor that connects La Chimenea with Playa Bella and the tender for the contracting of the works has already been opened.

This section was inaugurated in 2015, has a 325-meter-long wooden walkway and has 320 meters. In its execution, a concrete retaining wall was built due to the clearing tasks that had to be carried out. The passing of the years and the effects of sea storms have been causing damages that, although they were repaired in a previous intervention, now need a reinforcement action due to the harsh effects of the waves.

The base price of the tender for the work has been set at 74,099 euros (VAT included). The execution period of the works, once awarded and signed the contract, has been estimated at one month and a half.

The beaches of the municipality of Estepona have been affected for years by the effects of erosion, which causes significant damage to both infrastructure and equipment, so urgent intervention is needed to stabilize the coastline with the construction of breakwaters. This definitive solution, long claimed from the City Council the central government, is necessary to stop the loss of sand and the advance of the waves that leads to significant damage, such as those who has been suffering this section of the coastal path in Playa Bella.

The mayor, José María García Urbano, moved a few months ago to the central executive his willingness to assume from the City Council the drafting of the necessary projects to provide a definitive solution to the situation of the beaches of Estepona, either by breakwaters or any other solution determined by the technicians of Costas. This, under the coordination and with the mandatory authorizations of the central executive and competent entities. However, so far no response has been received and the coast of Estepona continues to suffer the effects of storms.
