The City Council joins the celebration of Libraries Day with various activities

This year's edition, under the slogan 'Against disinformation: libraries', aims to highlight the fundamental role played by all types of libraries in the fight against disinformation.

The City Council of Estepona informs that this Friday, October 24 is celebrated the Libraries Day. On this occasion, the Consistory has organized a series of activities to highlight the value of these spaces dedicated to culture, education and thought. This year's edition, under the slogan 'Against disinformation: libraries', aims to highlight the fundamental role played by all types of libraries (public, school, university, specialized and national/regional) in the fight against disinformation.

With respect to the Municipal Library of the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, the statistics for the last three years reveal a sustained and constant growth in the number of users and services. During this period, a total of 1,029 citizens have registered as new users. Last year alone, it registered a total of 40,488 visits. The Municipal Library has also enriched its literary offer with the opening of a new section dedicated to the foreign public, which offers a selection of more than two thousand copies of books, mainly novels, in several languages, such as English, French, German, Italian and Dutch, making it a key resource for the many students who study Spanish in this center.

To commemorate Libraries Day, at 5:00 p.m., the free storyteller 'Journey to the world of fantasy' will take place in the 'Elvira Lindo' Children's Room. Franco, a pirate boy who lives sailing the seas, finds a treasure chest that takes him to a magical world, where he discovers the power of imagination.

As for the Library of Contemporary Cultures, located in the Mirador del Carmen, on Friday 24, at 20:00 hours, Jordi Moltó, responsible for the psychological experiments of the television program 'El Hormiguero', will share the ins and outs of the viral videos of the program, in a meeting moderated by journalist Paco Reyero.

This cultural facility, the largest built so far in the municipality, is an original center that occupies eight floors of the tower Mirador del Carmen and has the most advanced technology and bibliographic funds available to an audience of all ages. It has a studio for recording podcasts, voices and radio programs, but also an area of 'makespace' (new media, digital printing and digital scenery), workshop area, audiovisual room, 'gamer' area, virtual reality, spaces for 'coworking' work groups, and for initiation to robotics.

As part of its regular programming, and to commemorate the first anniversary of the opening of this space, the City Council has organized a meeting with Elvira Lindo, which will take place on November 27, at 8:00 pm, followed by a concert by the folk pop singer, Alondra Bentley.
