The City Council starts the repair works of the pedestrian footbridge in Punta de la Plata damaged by the effects of the storms.

The project, which will allow reopening the section before the summer season, consists of reinforcing the footbridge foundations and replacing it.

The Estepona City Council has begun work to repair the pedestrian walkway located in Punta la Plata, which is damaged by the effects of storms and closed to the passage to preserve the safety of pedestrians.

The affected section is number 5 of the coastal corridor, built on a wooden footbridge supported on piles located on a fill placed on a mid-slope. At present, this fill has undergone a sliding process that affects the footbridge foundation. The action being carried out is intended to restore the functionality of the footpath by means of the execution of a new stable foundation, consisting of micropiles and reinforced concrete elements, and the replacement of the wooden footbridge in the affected section.

In this way, and during the month and a half that the works will last, about 30 meters of footbridge will be dismantled and replaced in order to work with sufficient margin on the unstable section and guarantee a correct transition with the existing sections. A total of 90 square meters of wooden footbridge and 60 meters of railing will be dismantled, according to the project, as explained by the Deputy Mayor for Infrastructure and Development, Ana Velasco. This section of the corridor is expected to be reopened before the summer season.

The City Council has recently acted in the area with another intervention that has allowed the recessing of the promenade that runs parallel to the walkway of the coastal corridor, which was built at the time by the developer of the adjoining development. This has been possible thanks to the agreement reached with the neighbors in the area. In this way, the layout of the path has been moved to the transit easement of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, as determined by the Coastal Demarcation.
