The City Council uncovers an early 20th century coffered ceiling during the extension works of the Archaeological Museum.

The Consistory has decided to preserve this wooden ceiling in this project that will double the space of the Municipal Archaeological Museum.

The Estepona City Council reports that it has discovered a coffered ceiling from the early twentieth century during the expansion of the Municipal Archaeological Museum, which is based in the old Town Hall. The councilman attached to the area of Heritage, Daniel Garcia, has indicated that the Consistory has decided to preserve this wooden ceiling and will perform a specific treatment that will keep it in optimal conditions.

Garcia explained that it is a large coffered ceiling, over 100 square meters, very well preserved, dating from the early twentieth century. In addition, he stressed that this system of wooden beams was widely used in the city in the construction of houses, although in subsequent reforms it was common to cover it with a false ceiling, as had happened in this case.

Also, the municipal responsible has stressed the importance for the Consistory has the recovery and preservation of municipal heritage and explained that after this finding the City Council has decided to change the original project in which it was planned to replace the false ceiling with which the building had, and has been determined to keep in sight the framework of wooden beams so common in the buildings of this time esteponeras.
