The improvement plan for the center and neighborhoods takes a new step forward with the awarding of the remodeling works in the Cristóbal Colón and Manuel Requena 'Melilla' squares.

The Consistory continues to work on the recovery of areas to enhance their value with new service networks, paving and provision of ornamental elements, green areas, street furniture and lighting.

The Estepona City Council continues to work on various actions aimed at continuing to provide comprehensive improvements, both in areas of the old town and in neighborhoods. Thus, it has just awarded two important remodeling works in the squares Cristobal Colon and Manuel Requena 'Melilla'.

Within the Beautification Plan of the city center, which has been working for some time, a remodeling has been scheduled to focus on the Plaza Colon, specifically in the area bounded by the streets Cristobal Colon and Maria de Maeztu. The intervention has been awarded for 468,952 euros and an execution period of 4 months. According to the works project, the area currently shows signs of deterioration, which is why a comprehensive intervention on a total surface area of 1,841 square meters has been chosen. The work will replace both the pavement and the rest of the current urban elements and street furniture.

The study of the state of the infrastructures has determined which of those already carried out, such as drainage, rainwater or street lighting, can be reused and what needs the area has for new material. Thus, it has been detected the need to replace the sewage networks, renewing the existing connections. Likewise, some rainwater connections will be made and scuppers will be added to collect rainwater from the streets. It is also planned to replace supply networks and connections.

New functional and ornamental elements will also be added to this area, such as green spaces, a fountain and a drinking fountain.

The second programmed intervention, in this case within the neighborhood improvement plan, is the recovery of the Plaza Manuel Requena 'Melilla', in the Tres Banderas area, for its enhancement and public enjoyment. The action takes into account the current state in which this space is located with the idea of proceeding to its transformation and modernization. The project includes providing this public square with furniture, shaded areas, landscaping and children's games, as well as a new lighting network. In short, the aim is to completely transform an open square, practically in disuse, into a place for rest, meeting and games.
