The Plenary culminates the process to start the works of 117 VPO in Estepona

The City Council approves the bidding of two plots in Camino de Cortes to build another 199 subsidized housing units, where priority will be given to the lowest final price for the buyers of these homes.

The plenary session has agreed the budgetary incorporation of 27 million euros, from the surplus obtained in 2025, to continue improving the city and municipal services.

The Plenary of the Corporation has approved today the bonus of the license to build a total of 117 VPO (divided into two promotions of 84 and 33 homes), in the area of Camino de Cortes. The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, explained that “many steps are being taken, for years, and that progress continues to be made in the municipal plan for the construction of subsidized housing to facilitate access to citizens with greater difficulties”. An example of this, he said, are the more than 100 families who have been living in the Juan Benítez development for the last four years.

In addition to this project, the government team has approved the proposal to tender two municipal plots where 199 subsidized housing of general and special regime can be built, in the area of Camino de Cortes Norte. This tender will prioritize as award criteria the lowest final price for the buyers of these homes.

In addition to these actions, the Consistory approved in the last February Plenary Session the compatibility of use for a total of 36 municipal plots that may be used for the construction of subsidized housing. This has been possible thanks to the adhesion of the City Council to the Decree-Law 1/2025 of urgent measures on housing, approved by the Junta de Andalucía, to promote the construction of VPO. Based on the parameters set out in the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) of Estepona, a total of 738 homes could be built on the aforementioned land, which is distributed throughout the municipality.

The Estepona City Council also agreed to make available to the central government six municipal plots with capacity for the construction of 109 subsidized housing units. These are plots of land with uses compatible with subsidized housing projects located in areas such as Casas del Padrón, Llanos de la Boladilla and Camino de Cortes. The municipal proposal responds to the announcement recently made by the Government of Spain to mobilize up to 23,000 million euros public and private to boost the supply of housing, and finance the construction of 15,000 units per year in Spain through the fund ‘Spain Grows’.

Likewise, the City Council continues to work on other urban development promotion projects that will allow the construction of 300 VPOs in Camino de Monterroso and another 800 in the Guadalobón and Arroyo Vaquero areas.

Economic matters

The plenary session has also agreed, also, a budget amendment amounting to 27 million euros, from the surplus obtained in 2025, to continue improving the city and municipal services. In this regard, the deputy mayor of the Economic area, Ana Vilaseca, recalled that this economic measure is possible thanks to “good management and good economic results” that has the City of Estepona. Thus, she pointed out that this economic amount will meet the needs of the city, improve the quality of life of citizens and help to continue generating employment and wealth in the city.

Specifically, 7 million euros will be allocated to an extensive asphalting plan throughout the municipality; the comprehensive remodeling of parks and gardens; the completion of the coastal corridor that is linking the entire coast; the improvement of street lighting and roads; as well as the expansion of the cleaning service. In addition, actions are contemplated for beaches, educational centers and the integral reform of the Fuerzas Armadas neighborhood.
